CA Commercial Registration for all pick up trucks - Tacoma World
I was just out of state last week and saw a billboard that goes something like CA has a tax of $1.55 (or something) extra per gallon vs 66 and 58 cents in AZ and TX. It was an advertisement to move out of state. Btw, cents are made up as I don’t recall but pretty sure I remembered $1.55 for CA is accurate hence our state gas prices per gallon.

I mentioned transferred ownership in my post but yes vehicles less than 8 years old when first registered in CA from out of state will require smog. For those that ride, motorcycles are smog exempt but out of state motorcycles need a minimum of 7,500 miles on the odometer before being brought into the state and registered in CA.

My Alu Cab review - Tacoma World
I have had an Alu Cab canopy on my 3rd gen for a little over a year now and have had a lot of the same issues as you, although I think they would be issues with other brand canopies not just Alu Cabs.

Would a stock 2nd Gen Tacoma pass CA smog if bought from outside CA?
One thing of note is that a vehicle sold in CA is required to come with a valid CA smog cert (<90 days old). Purchasing out of state you take the risk of it failing upon “import.” But any 50 state emissions vehicle, in unmodified format, should pass CA smog. Assuming it is in proper running order.

OTT Tune, does it void warranty - Tacoma World
We have 100's if not a 1000 trucks in CA running OTT. As long as you have all mandated/OEM installed equipment you'll be just fine. We DO NOT turn off CEL's or delete emissions equipment/functionality in our tunes. If your truck will pass stock, it will pass just the same.

As Southern CA offers plenty of open desert and rock trails out here. We could meet up in an empty lot or at my shop, which is not far from so decent stuff. There could always be a weekend made out of it, if people wanted to camp out at our dry lake in Joshua Tree.
